Commodore Tom Guy – Commander British Forces Gibraltar

Commodore Tom Guy took up his post as Commander British Forces Gibraltar in June 2022. The UK Armed Forces have had a presence in Gibraltar for more than 300 years, and in this Crunch we caught up with Commodore Guy to understand his role in overseeing this British Territory.

We were hosted in the Warrant Officers’ and Senior Rates’ Mess at Devil’s Tower Camp, and both had fish and chips for lunch as it was Friday. We had gone for a Brain Crunch Lunch, which I don’t mind as it still rhymes!

George “Johnny” Johnson MBE – Retired Squadron Leader and Dambusters Raid Survivor

On this morning of the 17th May 1943 at 3am, Squadron Leader Johnny Johnson was one of the 77 aircrew that returned from Operation Chastise, commonly known as the “Dambusters Raid”. This attack on the Möhne, Eder, and Sorpe dams in Germany was carried out by nineteen Avro Lancasters using the specially formed 617 Squadron, armed with the famous ‘bouncing bomb’ designed by Barnes Wallis.

This extended, exclusive interview with Johnny Johnson MBE is being released today to coincide with the 77th Anniversary of the catastrophic raid.

John Barber DL – Representative Deputy Lieutenant for the London Borough of Newham, and CEO of The LM Kendon Settlement

John Barber has held the Deputy Lieutenant role for the London Borough of Newham since 2007. Apart from keeping up with his own vast property portfolio, he’s also a Chief Executive for a charity in Newham, and has been for over 20 years. I caught up with him over brunch in the summer of 2019.
